Kyotographie, Yokohama, and best Coffee in Minatomirai

Last week, I had the chance to visit Kyoto during the great international photography festival “Kyotographie”. Besides participating in this year’s portfolio review, I had the chance to see James Mollison’s exhibition Where Children Sleep at the Kyoto Art Center. This is an impressive collection of photographs of children and their sleeping places from all over the world. Each children is introduced with a short paragraph which gives the viewer a good understanding of the situation, the child lives in. From the Kyotographie site: “Millions of families around the world sleep together in one room, and millions of children sleep in a space of convenience, rather than a place they can in any sense call their room. He (James Mollison) came to appreciate just how privileged he was to have had a bedroom to sleep and grow up in.”
If you still have the chance to see this exhibition, it is worth a trip!

Unfortunately, Kyoto was just a day trip, since I had to attend a conference in Yokohama. During the week, I regularly stopped by at minato coffee, which has the best coffee in the Minatomirai area, in my opinion. Here are a few snapshots from the coffee shop as my coffee is being prepared.
